Most people give Athens a day. Give us that day and we'll give you three cities. We start early on the Acropolis, before the heat and the queues, and walk the Plaka lanes while they still belong to the neighbourhood. Then the coast road south: the Saronic Gulf on one side, Flisvos and the spring-fed water of Lake Vouliagmeni on the other — swim stops whenever you fancy one, lunch where the fishing boats land. As the light softens we climb to the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion for a sunset people fly here for. Back in town, your table is already held, and the Parthenon is glowing over dinner.
One city, two lives. Spend the morning in the marble of the Acropolis, the afternoon in the Blue Flag coves of the Athens Riviera, and the golden hour at the Temple of Poseidon — then come back for a rooftop table with the Parthenon lit up beside your glass.
